CCTV provides unbeatable protection for businesses of all sizes

Protect your business with a CCTV system installed by FirstEye

Regardless of the size of your business or your budget, a CCTV system can be designed to work for you. There’s a misconception that CCTV is the preserve of big businesses but this is not the case and installing a CCTV system offers a highly effective way to protect your staff, stock, sensitive data and business assets.

CCTV cameras can be used outside or indoors or a combination of the two and depending on the type of system you choose, can record in colour, in daylight or darkness and high definition.

The benefits of CCTV systems for small businesses

CCTV offers the combined benefits of working in a preventative AND retrospective way:

  • designed to provide a highly effective preventative measure, CCTV cameras offer a proven way to deter thieves
  • CCTV also provides a very useful way to collect and record evidence if a crime should happen on your premises, whether it’s a theft carried out by an intruder or internal theft

Ideally, a CCTV system will deter criminals for attempting to enter your premises, therefore preventing a crime from happening in the first place. However, if the worst does happen, CCTV offers a way to help limit the damage by helping the police to identify those involved or through the provision of evidence in an insurance claim.

What’s the difference between CCTV and surveillance cameras?

Although CCTV and camera surveillance work in a similar way by recording events which could cause problems for your business, each type of system is, in fact, used in very different ways.

CCTV: CCTV systems record footage using a number of different cameras before storing the footage onto a private, local storage location. For example, a small shop might have a camera to cover the front entrance, another covering the shop floor and a third to cover the till area. The resulting footage is saved onto an internal storage (e.g. a hard drive) but is not available to the public.

Surveillance cameras: unlike a closed surveillance system (CCTV), surveillance cameras can be accessed remotely. It is possible to access the images using a smartphone app or tablet and the footage is saved onto a cloud storage system rather than a computer hard drive.

security barriers Leeds

Secure your business premises with a security barrier

Security barriers installed throughout Leeds and Yorkshire

Although security barriers offer a highly effective way to control which vehicles have access to your business premises, it is important that you choose the most appropriate one for your location.

Automatic barriers and security gates are widely used to protect car parks, business premises and facilites. The perfect solution for locations where vehicles enter and exit a secure area, automatic gates are ideal for the majority of car parks, whilst electronic security gates can be used to control access on a vehicle by vehicle basis.

In most cases, security gates are installed at the entrance to a car park of facility, or in locations such as storage areas or loading bays. In addition, security gates also offer a useful way to safeguard individual blocks of parking bays within a larger car park.

Which security gate is best for you?

A range of different types of security gate are available and the majority are made from durable metal. Barrier gates are ideal for protecting car parks from unauthorised vehicles but because pedestrians are able to pass underneath, they aren’t ideal for areas where security is an issue. Swing gates are designed to swing open and closed just like a normal gate and are widely seen in domestic properties. They can also prove useful for business premises and will give effective protection from unauthorised vehicles and pedestrians alike. Folding gates are an ideal solution for areas where space is limited but because they open and close quickly, it is important that additional safety measures are used to prevent accidents.

Automatic security gates can be controlled in a range of ways, including digital keypads, card readers, intercom systems, vehicle tag readers and number plate recognition. Here at FirstEye we have many years of experience in installing security systems and access barriers in a wide range of business premises and locations – if you would like to find out more, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

UK Crime survey shows another increase in burglaries in England and Wales

Protect your home and business from burglary with a security system installed by FirstEye

The results of the UK Crime Survey were released at the end of last month, showing a 9% increase* in police recorded burglary offences. Whilst this increase isn’t huge, it is cause for concern and clearly demonstrates the continued importance of protecting your home or business from the risk of theft.

Burglar alarms continue to offer the single most effective deterrent and will provide your home or business premises with round the clock protection. Here at FirstEye we have the expertise to install and maintain a wide range of burglar alarm systems, with options suitable for domestic, commercial, industrial and business properties. We will work closely with you to design and install a system which meets your individual requirements, providing peace of mind and protection for your property and possessions.

Installing a burglar alarm offers a range of benefits including:

  • An effective and highly visible deterrent as the majority of thieves are put off entering a property when they see that it has a burglar alarm.
  • Round the clock protection, providing you with peace of mind when you can’t be there.
  • Alarm systems to suit all budgets and requirements – from state-of-the-art monitored alarms, through to simple bell only systems.
  • A potential reduction in your insurance premiums.
  • Modern wireless alarms are simple to install and as little or no drilling is required, there are no unsightly wires.

Unbeatable protection with a combined alarm and CCTV system

For the ultimate in protection, a combined alarm and CCTV system is pretty hard to beat. CCTV is now widely used in residential  and commercial properties, offering a great way to provide enhanced protection for the interior and/or exterior of your home. CCTV vs burglar alarms – which is best for you?

Should you consider CCTV over a security alarm system?

We’re often asked by business and homeowners whether it would be best for them to have a CCTV system rather than a burglar alarm. Unfortunately it’s difficult to give a definitive answer to this question as with many things in life, a one-size-fits-all approach doesn’t work! A number of factors need to be taken into consideration if you’d like to decide whether or not CCTV is best for you, including:

  • Is CCTV going to provide you with the most cost-effective solution to protecting your home or business premises?
  • Is regular maintenance going to be possible to ensure that the CCTV system continues to provide effective protection?
  • Is the best option to simply install a security alarm AND CCTV system?

Whilst there’s little doubt that CCTV cameras act as highly effective deterrent, without the benefit of remote monitoring, camera footage can only be used retrospectively as evidence. Although the sight of CCTV cameras is usually enough to put off the majority of thieves, there are some who simply aren’t phased. With this in mind, remote monitoring is the most effective solution and can help you save money on other crime prevention measures.

What is remote monitoring?

A CCTV system which is remotely monitored will alert you as an incident happens as those monitoring the system will contact you or the emergency services. Obviously this offers a much better opportunity to catch thieves whilst they’re committing a crime and footage only needs to be used once the offence has occurred. In the majority of cases though a remotely monitored CCTV system is usually sufficient to stop intruders in their tracks.

Monitored burglar alarm systems

Burglar alarm systems are also more effective when they’re monitored as unlike bell only systems, depending on the type of monitoring you choose, either yourself, an emergency contact or the police will be informed in the event of a break in. Monitored alarms are much more efficient than bell only systems as when the alarm is activated, the professionals who monitor the system will asses the risk to security. A well-designed and professionally installed burglar alarm offers real benefits to home and business owners alike, providing you with protection and peace of mind, regardless of where you are.
