Which? highlights the risks of faulty electrical products

Which? Trusted Traders electrical services in Leeds

As members of Which?’s Trusted Traders scheme, we’re proud to work with the UK consumer rights organisation to help promote electrical safety and safe working practices. Once of the Which?’s current campaigns is to highlight and reform insufficiencies in the UK’s current product safety regime and with this in mind, we thought we’d highlight some of the dangers posed by faulty electrical products.

Which? are campaigning for action on dangerous electrical products and when you consider that in some of the very worst cases lives have been lost as result of fires started by faulty tumble dryers, washing machines and fridge freezers, this campaign is vital. However, whilst many electrical fires are triggered by an appliance fault, many are also caused by wiring which is no longer fit for purpose, is old or has been overloaded.

Electrical services for residential customers

Here at FirstEye we provide a range of electrical services for residential customers and whether you are about to buy a new appliance or are concerned about the wiring in your home, we’d be delighted to help. It’s important to remember that although it’s very tempting to try and install an appliance or carry out electrical repairs yourself, it really is best to leave electrical safety work to the professionals. By choosing to work with us you’ll have the reassurance of knowing that not only are we recognised as a Which? Trusted Trader, but that our team are all fully qualified and highly experienced.

The importance of electrical safety in the home should never be underestimated and if you suspect that one of your appliances may be faulty you must unplug it from the mains and contact the manufacturer as soon as possible. Caring for your appliances is a good way to help ensure that they work safely so make sure you keep your tumble dryer free from lint and make sure your fridge freezer is regularly de-frosted. Never overload electrical sockets and if you smell burning or spot scorch marks on plugs or sockets, contact a professional electrician as soon as possible.
